Just as exciting as the clothing designers present during fashion month are the countless shoe designs that go along with them. Every so often there are one or two styles that catch the attention of fashion insiders and ignite like wildfire. After two seasons where designers catered almost exclusively to the loungewear crowd, the top shoe trends for spring 2022 are poised for a big return to the outside world. While chunky sandals and furry slides—both nods toward lockdown fashion—won’t be going anywhere thanks to Hermès, MaxMara, Fendi, and Loewe, party-ready heels that are decked in embellishments and other adornments are back in the mix. Clogs and platforms aren’t fading away either: Acne, Coperni, Saint Laurent, and Versace all co-signed the trend, and the latter debuted a loafer-platform hybrid that’s likely to spawn a thousand copycats. For those that are hoping to get ahead of the wave, find the top spring 2022 shoe trends—and shop our favorites—below.

Labels like Hermès, MaxMara, and Gabriela Hearst aren’t done prioritizing comfort just yet: Chunky sandals will be everywhere this spring.

The ‘70s-era style is back—and brands like Acne, Saint Laurent, and Coperni (seen here) have co-signed its resurgence.

2022’s version of “everything old is new again” comes in clog form, which brands like Chloe, Victor Glemaud, Ganni, and Simon Miller ushered in at the tail end of last year.

Loewe showed a sandal with a nail polish bottle as a heel; Olivier Rousteing’s curved chain-link for Balmain was decidedly sexy; and Tom Ford’s artfully embellished heels were made to top off a party-ready look.

Just when you thought you’d seen everything, Versace sent a loafer-platform hybrid down the runway. Dior’s Mary Jane-sneaker hybrid wasn’t far behind.

Love it or hate it, the wedge is back—and this time, it’s infinitely more sculptural. Labels like Fendi, Acne, and Versace all debuted their own iterations.

While there was no shortage of square-toe shoes on the runway, there was something refreshing about the return to rounder, less harsh styles from Proenza Schouler, Coach, and Loewe, seen here.

This season's furry footwear trend—seen at Altuzarra, Miu Miu, and Fendi—offers a solution to easing back into heels after spending so much time in slippers over the last year.

Ultra-feminine touches like embellished pumps, crystal-encrusted bows, and exaggerated pointy toes offer an antidote to the comfort-first trends of seasons past.
